Residents of the Ikerin and Ajuba axis in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into fear after armed men reportedly attacked the area on Saturday night.
The attackers were said to have entered the community under the cover of darkness, firing several shots and forcing many residents to run for safety.
Local accounts said a number of people were taken away during the attack, while others reportedly sustained injuries. Some residents are also feared dead, although the actual number of casualties and abducted persons had not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The attack reportedly caused serious panic in the community, as families fled in different directions while gunshots rang through the area.
A source familiar with the incident said the situation remained tense, adding that community leaders and relevant authorities were still trying to confirm the full scale of the attack.
Residents of the affected area have appealed to the government and security agencies to strengthen security presence in rural communities across Kwara South, where cases of kidnapping and armed attacks have become a growing concern.
Many locals say the repeated security threats have affected farming activities, movement, and daily life, leaving communities in fear of further attacks.
