The development has been widely welcomed across the length and breadth of the constituency, as party faithful, community leaders, youths, women groups, and stakeholders described Odebunmi’s emergence as a “return of hope” and a new beginning for effective representation.
Hon. Olusegun Dokun Odebunmi, popularly known as Bunvic, a seasoned and grassroots oriented politician, previously represented Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency with distinction. During his tenure, he touched virtually every nook and cranny of the constituency through impactful projects, empowerment programmes, quality representation, and people centered leadership that earned him massive love and acceptance among the people.
Political observers recalled that despite his impressive performance while in office, Odebunmi narrowly lost his re-election bid in 2023 due to internal divisions within the party at the time. Many constituents have continued to express regret over that unfortunate outcome, especially in view of the current state of representation being experienced in the constituency.
It is no longer news that the people of Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency have become increasingly dissatisfied with the performance of the current lawmaker, whom many residents believe has failed to meet the expectations of the electorate. The perceived poor and ineffective representation has fueled growing calls for the return of tested and trusted leadership.
Although Hon. Odebunmi reportedly had no initial intention of contesting for the House of Representatives seat again in 2027, overwhelming appeals from constituents, party leaders, youths, and concerned stakeholders persuaded him to answer the call to service once more in order to rescue the constituency from what many described as “epileptic representation.”
Across towns and villages in the constituency, jubilant supporters have continued to celebrate his emergence, expressing confidence that his return will restore quality representation, attract meaningful development, and reconnect the people with the dividends of democracy.
